Rich, lightweight gel. Sinks in well and not greasy

As promised, a look at the new L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Care & Mask Duo Lightening Corrector, the perfect partner for the L’Occitane Brightening Touch Targeted Corrector. A lightweight but deeply nourishing gel that helps to reduce dark circles and smooth under-eye skin.

The alternate use of this product as a mask is clever, because to be honest you could do the same thing with any eye-cream. Apply a more liberal layer of the product and leave it to sink in for around 15/20 minutes and then either pat in or take off the excess. This allows your skin to drink in everything it needs.

The power of L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Care & Mask Duo Lightening Corrector comes from Immortelle extract (4th most prominent ingredient). A while ago I did my research and found papers in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology proving the effective results on the topical application of immortelle extract and not only does it work as an effective antioxidant, it acts as an effective anti-inflammatory, reducing puffiness and irritation.

In fact, L’Occitane Divine Extract is also one of the best result producing products I’ve ever seen which relies mainly on Immortelle extract.

You’re also going to find brightening daisy extract (an asian skincare favourite); evening primrose oil to calm and aid healing; borage oil, an excellent moisturiser; caffeine, a pretty standard anti-inflammatory ingredient – this seems odd when Helichrysum Italicum (Immortelle) extract does it so well; then finally some moisturisers/humectants, emulsifiers, stabilisers, preservatives (all minimal) and despite it’s gorgeous fragrance, no Parfum.

In testing, I really enjoyed it… reeaally enjoyed it. I initially thought it wasn’t going to be nourishing enough seen as though I’m prone to dehydration and normally use more heavy duty treatments, but no, perfect.

It comes out as a thick gel but on contact with the skin, disperses into a cooling, watery texture that makes everything go “ahhhhh” (as in relaxing as opposed to “ARGH!”). My first reaction was, “SILICONE! BAH! GET IT OFF! SILICOOOONE!”, but to my surprise, there was none – the results are suspiciously smoothing, diffusing and radiating but everything appears to be well above board. Hurrah for L’Occitane.

Dark circles look reduced without makeup, this is the main highlight of the product. Everything seems to rejuvenate instantly and over time (a few weeks) you can start to see the differences between applications (after washing etc).

I would quote the consumer satisfaction tests but they’re scraping the barrel on this one with the three statements using phrases like “appear corrected” and “look smoother”, which frankly means naff-all – smoking might make someone “feel” good but it’s still technically killing them; ok maybe that analogy is a tad extreme, but you get the point. Sorry L’Occitane, but don’t use crappy, mass-market buzz phrases when the product is actually excellent and doesn’t need it.

I’m waiting for something to snap (but hope it doesn’t) because L’Occitane is on a hell of a roll at the moment and have been for the last year or so. I remember when they were that quirky odd brand that just made Lavender hand-soap (they still do and it’s amazing). They’ve become a skincare giant and as long as they continue to produce products like the Immortelle Eye Care & Mask Duo Lightening Corrector, then I’ll continue to be a client for life.

L’Occitane Immortelle Eye Care & Mask Duo Lightening Corrector is available here for £32.

I really like mine as well. As I’m new to reading your blog, am happy to hear that my obsessive love of the Divine Lotion is justified!
