Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+

Most of you will know by now that I used to be an accredited consultant for Clinique a little while ago. Oh yes, I once donned the crystal white lab-coat and trademark, Clinique-C badge. You might think I’m a little biased then when it comes to ranting and raving about Clinique products. Since the age of 13 I’ve used their skincare and it’s what lead me to work for the brand in the first place. I love it.

So as a hardcore Clinique-Geek, I was shocked, appalled, titillated, intrigued and aghast to hear that as they did 2 years ago with Clarifying Lotion, the iconic Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion was to be reformulated. I was invited to the launch but was trekking around London, exhausted from London Collection Men. However; I’ve been using the reformulation for the last few weeks.

According to Clinique, it took 3 formulating dermatologists, 53 researchers, and 100 formula trials to get the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ just right.  So after 65 years since the original, was it worth it?

What I love about it primarily is that on first contact with the skin, it feels exactly the same as the original. It melts into the skin the same, it initially feels the same, it smells the same and it looks the same. The biggest differences can be felt throughout the day as skin feels more hydrated for longer and skin seems to feel silkier and softer by the evening. I’ve found that since using Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+, I’ve been reaching for the Clinique Moisture Surge jar a little less, even in this heat we’ve been experiencing.

But other than the ‘plus’, what are the differences? It’s twice as moisturising with the addition of Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid and Urea. These ingredients bond moisture to the skin but are non-comodoenic and don’t change the famously silky consistency of the moisturiser. This reformulation has proven to deliver a 54% improvement of the skin’s moisture barrier in 8 weeks!

This is definitely worth the wait and shouldn’t put off its die-hard of loyalists. The price point is the same with the 125ml with pump retailing at £29.50 (smaller sizes are available) here at Clinique’s website.

I love Clinique skincare! I use the Dramatically difference moisturising gel, which I really like but sometimes it’s not quite enough for the dry skin on my cheeks, I defo want to give this one a try, and the pump bottles last for ages! x

Hi Rinica, thanks for the comment! I also used to use the gel and find that it’s definitely perfect for my T-Zone and I can use something else on my dehydrated cheeks. But, DDML[+] just seems to know where you need moisture and where you don’t; balancing the skin out perfectly.

Haha I still have a crisp, clean, brand new one hidden in the back of my wardrobe! I might break it out for you some day lol! My mum is also a fan of the original and has really been enjoying this. You can pick up a really small travel-size or even a sample from on-counter for her to try out before hand!

Hey James. I’ve checked around and the comparative ingredients list located here shows that it still does. As far as texture is concerned it doesn’t leave a greasy film like many mineral oil based moisturisers do.

Sounds like its been improved really well. I have to say I’ve never used DDML before and I always assume my combination skin would have to go for the gel form instead of the lotion. Has the gel formulation changed as well?

The Gel was updated a few years back to include the new ingredients. I do find that the lotion suits my skin type well. Always best to go to counter for a skin consultation though!
