The Greek god of love, Eros is the new fragrance from Versace created by Aurelien Guichard, the brand’s first mens scent to launch in 5 years. Needless to say, it’s been worth the wait and I can safely say this is going to be one of the fragrances we’ll remember from 2013. “Eros is a scent which depicts and emphasises power and sensuality” – Donatella Versace. The bottle is a solid, heavy, bondi blue glass, emblazoned with the embossed head of medusa with gold lettering. It feels strong to hold and is so tactile, I don’t want to put it down (I keep breaking from typing to play with it).

Versace Eros relies on many of the best loved notes, with a top of mint, lemon and green apple; a heart of tonka, ambrozan and geranium; finally a base of Madagascan vanilla, vetyver, oak moss and cedarwood. I feel it’s deliciously reminiscent of Chanel Allure, one of my favourite men’s fragrances, however Eros is a little sweeter which is possibly due to the top note of sweet apple, yet still it exudes unquestionable masculinity. It’s just sexy. On first contact, you can really pick out the cedarwood and it gradually sweetens over time to reveal the beautiful tonka and vanilla, further sweetened with the apple, lime and mint. It’s addictive. You’ll also be pleased to know that as well as 30ml, 50ml and 100ml eau de toilette sizes, there’ll be an after-shave lotion, after-shave balm, perfumed deodorant, deodorant stick and invigorating shower gel.
This is a gorgeous scent to travel and I can see this being fabulous in summer, I’m certain it’s going to go wild when it launches on the 17th March in Duty Free shopping nation wide. As it relies on many classic notes, this would be the perfect gift for his birthday or for Father’s Day without the fear of whether he’ll like it or not, he’s bound to! I love this and Versace Eros launches on the 17th March in Harvey Nichols, John Lewis and Duty free, but if you can’t wait, you’ll be able to pick it up in 3 days time (24th February) as an exclusive from Harrods. [Update: 13/03/2013] You can now pick it up online from House of Fraser here.
