Bobbi Brown Skincare Remedies

Arriving on my door step a couple of weeks ago, these are the two latest additions to the excellent Bobbi Brown skincare collection – No. 93 Skin Fortifier and No.75 Skin Clarifier . The entire collection has 6 products in total also including No.91 Skin Reviver; No.86 Skin Moisture Solution; No.80 Calming Algae Complex and No.75 Skin Clarifier.

Known as ‘Potions’ by the brand’s founder, they’re pure blends of essential oils with a few added extras. The ingredients on the whole are excellent with only a few minor eyebrow raises.

No.75 Skin Clarifier

For Oily / Blemished Skin

For pore and oil control, the No.75 Skin Clarifier is a blend of non-blocking oils: Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil (Meadowfoam), Argania spinosa Kernel Oil (Argan), Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil (Rosehip), Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract (Serenoa), Leptospermum Scoparium Leaf Extract (Manuka), Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive), Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil (Sea Buckthorn) and Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).

There’s also a shot of Salicylic Acid in there but I highly doubt this is naturally derived. The synthetic form is much more stable and widely used. The oils condition and calm blemished skin whilst the salicylic acid gets to work by unclogging those pores.

No. 75 is an oil based but don’t let this put you off if you’re oily. Fighting oil with oil, particularly at night can help sooth skin and help reduce natural oil production. I’ll repeat this later on but don’t use an oil during the day unless you really have to; particularly in hot/bright weather, you’ll burn as the oil acts as a heat conductor.

The Skin Clarifier smells great and for an oil is quite serum-y rather than a slick, viscose oil. The texture means it does sink in quite well, I have used this in my T-Zones and for me and my normal/combination skin, means I don’t need a moisturiser in these areas at night (but I still add one to my cheeks and neck).

No.93 Skin Fortifier

For Norma/Dry Damaged Skin

A more heavy duty skin repairer, No.93 Skin Fortifier is designed for just that with a richer, but again non-blocking, blend of plant and fruit oils: Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive), Rubus idaeus (Raspberry Leaf), Glycine Soja Sterols (Soya Sterols), Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil (Meadowfoam), Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter (Murumuru Oil), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea nut extract), Mangifera Indica Seed Butter (Mango), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Persea gratissima oil (Avocado), Tocopheryl Acetate (more Vitamin E); there’s also some skin refining Salicylic Acid in there too.

Unfortunately, there’s a very small amount of Cinnamyl alcohol, a fragrance ingredient. My only explanation for it is that sometimes blends of particularly fatty oils (avocado, mango, shea and murumuru etc) can create a rather unpalatable smell, which this product doesn’t have and I think this is the reason why. I’d rather it not be in there, but I’d also rather not have a stinky product.

I’ve been using No.93 underneath my night cream on my cheeks and neck only; concentrating on my T-Zone with No.75. It does take a little longer to sink in and I’d only recommend this at night time but in the morning my skin feels great. Once again, don’t use an oil during the day unless you really have to; particularly in hot/bright weather, you’ll burn as the oil acts as a heat conductor.
