As January unfolds, and the remnants of Christmas festivities fade away, there’s one fragrance I’m in no hurry to set aside until next year.
Allow me to introduce you to Gloria by Cire Trudon, a candle that defies the boundaries of seasonal scents, inviting you on a captivating olfactory journey.
While the mention of orange, cinnamon, and clove might naturally bring to mind the Christmas period, Gloria is a delightful surprise. It’s not your typical Christmas fragrance.
Instead, it embodies the sophistication and strength reminiscent of a finely crafted men’s cologne. There’s a robustness to it, akin to a perfectly tailored suit.
Gloria Fragrance Notes
Gloria by Cire Trudon is a fragrance that defies easy categorisation, particularly for a purported festive candle. While its initial notes might suggest Christmas, it quickly evolves into something much more profound and versatile.
It’s also just quite unusual for a Cire Trudon fragrance which – it has more of an musky edge to it rather than the rounded warmth of their usual fayre.
- Top Notes: Cardamom, Coriander, Incense, Orange
- Heart Notes: Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg
- Base Notes: Amber, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Vetiver
These notes come together to create a captivating scent experience. The journey begins with a burst of cardamom, followed by the subtle spiciness of coriander and a church-like touch of incense. The bright note of orange adds a refreshing contrast but is not prominent.
As the fragrance develops, cinnamon takes centre stage, infusing warmth and nostalgia, while clove adds depth and slight sweetness. Nutmeg enhances the complexity.
In the end, Gloria leaves a lasting impression with its base notes. Amber, cedarwood, patchouli, and vetiver combine to create a warm, sensuous and earthy warmth that lingers in the air.
New Votive Style
The vessel of the Gloria candle is a work of art and a far departure from the standard (but beautiful) green glass and large Trudon logo. Instead, Gloria is crafted with meticulous care and a distinctive flourish.
It features a vibrant red glass exterior with the intricate use of gold leaf on the inside. When the candle is lit, the golden rays illuminate through the glass, creating a beautiful glow of angelic light. Additionally, a thick, metalized Trudon emblem adds a final touch of elegance.

This will be a votive I keep long after its burnt down. I do wish, like Perfumer H, Cire Trudon offered refill or a refillable service. I cannot throw their vessels away and there’s only so many pencil pots and tea-light holders I can handle!
Cire Trudon: Candles of Kings
Cire Trudon, sometimes just referred to as ‘Trudon’, is a name synonymous with exceptional French craftsmanship and timeless elegance. Celebrating a remarkable 380th-anniversary milestone, this prestigious candlemaker has a rich heritage dating back to its days as the official court candlemaker to French royalty.
Trudon’s commitment to quality extends to the ingredients used in their candles. They craft their candles from a blend of 100% vegetable wax, which includes carefully selected components such as palm oil, rice, soy, and coconut. This unique blend not only ensures a clean and even burn but also contributes to the candles’ exceptional fragrance diffusion. It’s a testament to Trudon’s dedication to using the finest materials to create candles that are truly exceptional in every way.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Gloria by Cire Trudon is more than just a candle; it’s a sensory experience, a celebration of tradition and innovation, and a tribute to the rich heritage of a brand that has graced the courts of French royalty.
While Gloria may be a seasonal edition, its impact is long-lasting. It’s a fragrance that transcends Christmas in a vessel that’s a work of art. As you bask in its warm, inviting glow, you’re enjoying a legacy that has illuminated lives for 380 years and counting
