Review: SkinMed Tebiskin IDRA Hydrating Emollient Cream

Tebiskin Idra 1

You’re probably reading this because your aesthetician has recommended it and you’re wanting to see if it’s worth the price tag. The answer is yes, but keep reading to find out why this is better than your pharmacy emollient.

First Impressions

I was struck by its rich texture that surprisingly absorbed well into the skin. It’s an effective moisturiser that doesn’t leave a greasy feeling, which is quite impressive.

The cream has a subtle, almost undetectable scent – reminiscent of balloons, oddly enough. This is due to its fragrance-free formula, focusing solely on the raw ingredients without any added perfumes. When you have sensitive skin or skin that’s been irritated by medication or aesthetic treatment, this is exactly what you want.

Upon application, the cream instantly soothed my skin. I should say I got this when I started my allitretinoin (Vitamin A) medication for hand eczema that had, unfortunately, full body and face effects. So IDRA’s calming power was particularly beneficial. It tackled my issues of redness, sensitivity, and dryness head-on, offering so much needed relief.

The Science IDRA

What sets Tebiskin IDRA apart are its scientifically-backed ingredients, clearly chosen for their hydrating and soothing properties:

  • Urea: A hydration hero that goes beyond surface-level moisturizing, penetrating deeper to alleviate dryness.
  • Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM): This isn’t your average compound; it’s a known anti-inflammatory, reducing redness and calming irritation.
  • Malic Acid: A gentle exfoliant, crucial for those of us battling with skin texture issues.

Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM): The Soothing Powerhouse

MSM in Tebiskin IDRA plays a pivotal role in calming and healing the skin. This organic sulfur compound, often overlooked in skincare, is a hidden gem for its potent anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Why It’s Beneficial: MSM’s ability to soothe is especially valuable for skin undergoing stress from treatments like my own. It helps in reducing inflammation, a key factor in skin redness and irritation, making it great for anyone with sensitive or irritated skin.

By all means check with your healthcare professional but I’m also thinking anyone undergoing treatments like chemotherapies or other skin-stressing therapies (not radiotherapy as that should come with skincare guidance from your care team anyway)
  • How It Works: By potentially inhibiting the breakdown of collagen and promoting healthy skin regeneration, MSM helps maintain skin’s elasticity and health. This is crucial in preventing and treating the irritation often associated with sensitive skin and aggressive skincare treatments.
  • Ideal for Sensitive Skin: MSM’s gentle action makes it a safe and effective ingredient for those with sensitive skin, offering therapeutic benefits without harsh reactions.

Malic Acid: Gentle Exfoliation for Sensitive Skin

Malic Acid, an AHA derived from fruits, takes a gentler approach to exfoliation, crucial for maintaining skin health, especially in sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

  • Exfoliation Without Irritation: Unlike other AHAs, Malic Acid provides a softer form of exfoliation. It loosens the bonds between dead skin cells gently, making it a safer alternative for those with sensitive skin.
  • Benefits for Eczema and Sensitive Skin: Regular exfoliation is key in managing dry, flaky conditions like eczema. Malic Acid’s mild exfoliating action can reduce flakiness, enhancing the skin’s ability to absorb and retain moisture from emollients like Tebiskin IDRA. Often retaining a dry crust begats more dryness! So allowing your products to sink in and shield the smooth cells is highly beneficial for relieving dryness.
  • Enhancing Skin Radiance: For those dealing with the dullness often associated with sensitive and eczema-prone skin, Malic Acid can help in brightening and evening out skin tone, giving a more radiant appearance.

The Verdict

Tebiskin IDRA is a standout in the world of high-end aesthetician skincare (think Obagi et al) particularly for those dealing with the rigours of skin treatments like allitretinoin as I am. Its unique blend of ingredients, including Urea, Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM), and Malic Acid, addresses not just hydration but also soothes and rejuvenates stressed skin. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone struggling with sensitivity, redness, or dryness and is sick of the GP recommended basic emollients like Dermol, Zerobase and E45.

The cream’s effectiveness in calming and repairing the skin goes a long way in justifying its price. For anyone undergoing medical or aesthetic treatments that challenge their skin, like laser and dermabrasion, Tebiskin IDRA offers more than temporary relief – it provides a sustained improvement in skin health.

In summary, if you’re being recommended Tebiskin IDRA, it’s worth the investment. It’s not just another moisturiser; it’s a comprehensive solution for those with specific or demanding skincare needs. The noticeable results it delivers make it a worthy addition to my skincare armoury.
