Thanks to a fortuitous skincare consultation at Renude.co, about 2 years ago I was introduced to Sesderma’s Azelac Moisturising Gel – a gem of a skincare product. I’ve always had a bit of a red flush to my skin so I look for things to calm and repair, give moisture, but not layer it full of slime and grease.
The Spanish-formulated, Azelac Moisturising Gel by Sesderma is formulated to address a range of skin concerns, particularly acne, redness, and hyperpigmentation. In fact spending a lot of time in Spain, I’ve seen Sesderma all over, it’s a pharmacy favourite, but I’ve never been enticed enough to commit, until it was recommended.
It’s designed for anyone seeking effective yet gentle treatment with ingredients like azelaic acid, niacin, and potassium azeloyl diglycinate, that aims to reduce inflammation, improve skin tone and texture, and provide hydration without the heaviness or greasiness. This makes Azelac a good choice for those of us with sensitive and/or problematic skin, looking for a lightweight yet effective solution.

Benefits of Sesderma Azelac Moisturising Gel
There are quite a few benefits I’ve found, these are the main ones that I’ve seen. Whilst using this I ended up going on some eczema tablets that did leave me a bit more sun-sensitive, and it Azelac did seem to manage the bits of hyperpigmentation that came up that weren’t as well managed on other parts of my body. Anyway, here’s my list:
- Reduces Acne and Redness: The gel is very effective in managing acne and lessening redness, suitable for those with acne-prone or sensitive skin. It’s calming and hydrating.
- Targets Hyperpigmentation: Assists in lightening dark spots and achieving an even skin tone. Definitely found the benefits of this.
- Hydrates Without Greasiness: Offers essential hydration without leaving an oily residue, ideal for those preferring a light moisturiser but still something that relieves.
- Improves Skin Texture: Consistent use can has lead to a smoother skin texture and reduced the need for much exfoliation.
- Soothes Inflammation: As it contains ingredients known for their calming effects, I’ve found this very beneficial for inflamed or irritated areas, particularly my cheeks.
- Non-Comedogenic: Designed not to block pores, making it a good option for people concerned about acne from skincare products but that find other spot/blemish-products too drying.
- Gentle Formulation: Soft enough for daily use, even for sensitive skin types.

When to use the Sesderma Azelac Moisturising Gel
It can be used on its own if you don’t require much hydration and your skin doesn’t feel at all tight after cleansing. But if you need a little more, this is one to layer up.
I’ve been using this as almost a pre-moisturiser during the day and night because on its own, for me, it’s not hydrating enough. So after cleansing I use a hyaluronic acid spray from By Wishtrend; an SVR Vitamin B3 Serum, this, then whatever my moisturiser of choice is depending on the weather, time of day, temperature, heat etc.
Conclusion
Wrapping this up, the Sesderma Azelac Moisturising Gel is a good all-rounder. It’s not some miracle cure-all, but it does what it says on the tin. If you’ve got skin that gets easily annoyed or looks a bit red, it’s a very good option. Azelac is light, doesn’t leave your face feeling like an oil slick, and it’s been decent for keeping those annoying spots and dark patches at bay.
For me, on its own, it’s not super hydrating, but it’s a good team player in my skincare lineup and layers very, very well. So if you’re looking for something to slot into your routine that helps calm things down without causing drama, Azelac’s worth a look.
