The Body Shop Spa Fit Smoothing And Refining Scrub

The Body Shop has launched a great new line they’ve named Spa Fit; designed to “refines skin’s texture, and will leave it looking smoother and feeling firmer”. There are 4 products in the range, the scrub, toning concentrate, massage oil and the return of the handheld massager. This, my favourite, is The Body Shop Spa Fit Smoothing and Refining Scrub

All the products contain some great ingredients such as Apricot seed, Orange Peel, Lemon, Community Fair Trade Honey and naturally sourced caffeine.

As caffeine is an integral part of the range, I thought it’d be good to go into a little more depth. Caffeine primarily acts as a skin conditioner and has corticoid like effects on the skin, reducing inflammation and calming irritations. Caffeine for use on men however, is documented to have a slightly different effect, acting as an androgen dampener which can reduce among other things, hair loss. I can’t see any harm in trying the oil from the range for regular cranial massage and seeing what happens.

The scrub has a beautiful smell of oranges, looking and smelling just like orange marmalade. The Apricot seed is the scrubbing element that effectively buffs away all your dead skin cells, leaving skin fresh, smoother and brighter. As well as feeling smoother, it also leaves your skin feeling clean and smelling great!

It needs to be applied to damp skin which is not always easy in a shower. I suggest to fill your hands with water and rub down your skin rather than stepping fully in. If your skin is too wet, it’ll just slide off and you won’t enjoy the beautiful effects. This might sound pointless advice if you’re a regular exfoliator, but very useful if you haven’t done it before! Once damp, massage firmly onto the skin in circular motions and rinse off.

The Community Fair Trade honey from Ethiopia adds to the scrub’s texture as well as acting as a moisturising agent to condition and smooth the skin. The honey is made by local farmers, in handcrafted bamboo hives hung in the forests. The honey is then separated out, filtered and prepared for shipping so it can be formulated by The Body Shop.

The Body Shop are one of the only companies that source such fabulous ingredients from wonderful locations, ethically, whilst providing a livelihood to communities that would otherwise struggle to survive.

I do think it’s worth pointing out that although there are many natural ingredients, there are also many, many preservatives, colorants, perfumes and such, it’s not quite as natural as I think they’d like it to seem, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a fantastic product! I would however, really like to see The Body Shop produce some products that don’t contain quite so many artificial ingredients, but I do understand that they need to give their products a longer life.
