Local British Grooming Products from Somerset with MR. SE

Firstly, hello. It’s been a good couple of weeks since my last post and I must apologise. I’ve now finally finished moving into my new apartment which has been a fun, frustrating, exciting and teeth grindingly aggravating experience – but it’s all finished and I’m back with you.

So. I came across MR. SE products on twitter by chance after doing a quick search on Twitter for grooming, which I don’t often do. The products – a shampoo, soap, matte hair clay and beard oil – have been created by Daniel James, owner of Something Else Hair Salon in Somerset.

We got chatting over Twitter and email and the next day, a brown Jiffy bag turned up with three of the four products in the collection as I don’t have a beard so the oil was of no use.

The products are gorgeous, I have to say. The shampoo is very gentle but relatively good at removing product buildup such as sprays, gels and clays. I say relatively good as it did take me two washes to get everything out but it didn’t leave my hair dry and squeaky as some ‘build up remover’ shampoos do. I’m sad there’s no conditioner in the range to be honest.

The soap is lovely and I’m not the biggest soap fan (I prefer more nourishing shower gels). It smells like a cross between a mint humbug and Kendal Mint Cake and doesn’t leave skin as squeaky as most soaps do. It’s been sat in my shower since the end of last week now and there’s no sign of it melting, drooping or sinking away.

The matte hair wax is odd; I really like it! I took one look at it and thought, “well, that’s just a clay; it’s never seen a wax!”, but when you take a lump of this very hard, clay-like substance from the jar and start to work it into your hair, it does feel a little like a wax yet giving all the shape a wax would, but with the incredible hold and matte finish that I’d get from one of my beloved clays – the best of both worlds.

Daniel didn’t give me a purchase location for you guys as the brand has only launched from their salon 10 days ago but drop them a line on their MR. SE Facebook page and I’m sure they’ll be able to sort you out.
