This article was originally featured on the MonkeyToMan blog as a guest post by yours truly on Aug 24th. Now the adverts have started and the craze is beginning, I thought I should pop this on my site and welcome you all to the world of BB Creams:

Okay guys and gals, I would like to introduce Thom from ManFace.co.uk who agreed to do this in depth article regarding BB Creams. I hope you enjoy!

We in the UK are on the edge of something new and revolutionary that’s swept Asia, particularly Korea, by storm. BB Creams, or Blemish Balm Creams are the new all in one. They give coverage of blemishes, scars and pigmentation marks, whilst brightening the skin, reducing skin pigmentation, and in some cases, refining lines, wrinkles and pores. What’s not to love?

This revolutionary technology is attributed to Polish born Dr. Christine Schrammek, who came to be one of Germany’s most successful dermatologists. She developed the Blemish Balm to cover and treat skin stresses that often come hand in hand with cosmetic procedures. It was then expanded from the cosmetic procedure market to the general mass market and became huge in South Korea and has now expanded throughout the rest of Asia.

This I can see, will be a huge phenomenon and to be honest, for both men and women. The coverage is low-key, and provides a virtually undetectable finish, with fantastic treatment benefits.

For anyone suffering from Acne Vulgaris, Rosacea and similar skin concerns, I would recommend this type of product. The broad-spectrum sun protection really appeals to me, as this prevents many dark marks from developing in the first place.

Now, several variations have been released, and by some pretty big players, which tells us this is one to watch as well as the fact that there are wildly varying price points so it’s going to come at us from all angles of the market.

• Clinique Age Defense BB Cream SPF30/PA+++ 1.4 OZ
• Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Extra Intensive BB Cream SPF 35 PA+++
• Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-In-One B.B. Blemish Balm Cream

All I can say is that it’s coming. Get ready.

You should check out RAMY Sleep In Beauty Tinted moisturizer. (don’t be fooled by the name, it’s not a night cream) It’s an anti aging/anti blemish tinted moisturizer that is undetectable on the skin. It has everything you’d ever want in an anti aging night cream, but in a tinted moisturizer you can wear in the day. As a man who doesn’t like to appear made up, this is one of the only bb creams that truly improves the quality of your skin the more you use it, rather than just make it look better. It does both. It doesn’t have SPF in it, (there is some titanium dioxide in it so it probably offers minimal sun protection) but SPF can age your skin so I prefer to just keep my face out of the sun and only use heavy duty sunscreen when I go to the beach. I’m almost 40 and people think I’m 24 so I gotta be doing something right.

    Hi Jason,
I hadn’t heard of this product until now, thank you so much for taking the time to leave the recommendation and I’ll get right on it. I hate guys looking made up but at the same time, we should always look our best so this sounds right up my alley. T x

I will admit that I work for RAMY as a makeup artist and eyebrow specialist. He would send me out to stores to promote and I’d wear the S.I.B. so that I could show people how natural it looks and at first I’d wash my face when I get home and be like, “sad face…here’s my real skin”. But I’d say after about two weeks of using it every day it improved my skin to the point that I didn’t really see much of s difference. The 1% salycilic acid made little tiny bumps and blemishes on my nose and forehead disappear, and my redness around my nose and on my chin were diminished. There are only 3 shades but they seem to work well on everyone they’re I guess what you might say self-adjusting. If you go to http://www.ramy.com you can also find the original packaging for half price. Same product just in a jar instead of a pump. The Elixer Primer is also amazing. It has cucumber and st. john’s wort that take away skin redness, and firms and softens the skin. It’s amazing as a pre-shave to protect from cuts.

As for my current other favorite “undetectable” bb creams that are more just for looks and don’t really have a lot of skin-healthy ingredients…..The NYX BB cream is like a second skin that makes you look absolutely flawless, doesn’t look at all like makeup on, and doesn’t come off until you want it to. (even after makin’ out) The only BB cream I can seem to find that does have SPF that is man-friendly is the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream 30 SPF (not the Dream Pure, that has a powdery finish) . The Olay Fresh Effects is SPF 15 and it’s pretty darned good but not totally undetectable. So many of them are too thick or are practically a foundation consistency.
